At the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was asked what kind of government the delegates had created. He famously replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Those famous words are a brilliant reminder that in order to keep and maintain the democratic republic left to us by our founders, we must remain engaged and active as citizens.
