Atlanta, GA – On Friday night, Kevin McCarthy was elected Speaker of the U.S. House. In response, Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement:

“We appreciate the courageous 20 Members of Congress who stood firm for structural reforms to improve how Congress functions. The courageous 20 showed a commitment to America and the Constitution as they worked to change the Rules of the House of Representatives.

“I look forward to watching as Speaker Kevin McCarthy keeps his commitment to adhere to the Rules, which the courageous 20 Members of Congress have said are the best House Rules in our lifetimes, and the other parts of the agreement he has made with the 20.

“Some across America, and many inside the chamber, saw the process as uncomfortable. Transformative changes to the status quo are never an easy process. Nevertheless, the Republican Conference showed a willingness to push through the discomfort to decentralize power away from the Speaker’s position and restore individual Representatives’ ability to represent their constituents. As such, this process has been good for the People’s House and America.”
