Atlanta, GA – Today, the House passed the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act” (SAVE Act). The SAVE Act strengthens current law by requiring states to obtain documentary proof of citizenship before registering anyone to vote in federal elections. In response, Tea Party Patriots Action (TPPA) Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:

“We at Tea Party Patriots Action are grateful to the Members of Congress who just voted to pass the SAVE Act, to reduce incidents of noncitizen voting and strengthen election integrity.

“We especially want to thank the House Democrats who were strong enough to stand up to the radicals on the left wing of their party, who were pushing hard for all Democrats to vote against this simple, commonsense reform.

“The legacy media keeps insisting that requiring proof of citizenship is redundant, because noncitizen voting is already illegal. What they don’t explain is that there is currently no enforcement method to ensure that the law is being followed. This is where the SAVE Act comes in — it adds an important safety mechanism to ensure the law is being implemented as intended.

“Strengthening election integrity is at the heart of Tea Party Patriots Action’s mission. Ahead of the last two election cycles, we recruited and trained 35,000 poll watchers and poll workers.

“Last year, we commissioned one of President Trump’s pollsters, John McLaughlin, to conduct an election integrity poll. We learned that 87% of Americans agree that ‘proof of U.S. citizenship should be required to register to vote in American elections,’ and that 79% agree that ‘foreigners should be prohibited from interfering, including voting, in U.S. elections.’

“In addition to thanking Speaker Johnson and the entire House leadership team for scheduling and whipping this vote as well as they did, we also thank Rep. Chip Roy and Sen. Mike Lee for writing the bill and building support for it.

“Now we need the Senate to pass this bill and send it to President Trump so he can sign it into law. This is one of the most important issues Congress will take up during this session, and we must do everything we can to get it signed into law.”
