Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today after President Trump signed an executive order on police reform.

“There is an urgent need to hold the police more accountable, and the President’s executive order today is a positive step in making that happen. Our members are grateful to our men and women in blue, but whenever a police officer abuses his or her power, he or she needs to be held accountable. Curbing police abuse is a public safety issue and a civil liberties issue, and our members care about both. However, we oppose in the strongest possible terms any attempt to  ‘defund the police.’  That is a recipe for chaos and catastrophe. The President is right to insist on common-sense reforms while maintaining ‘law and the order.’ That is exactly what our members and the American people want and deserve.”
