Liberal activists are making newly appointed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ life a living nightmare, as many have publically berated her and physically impeded her path following her confirmation and subsequent swearing-in ceremony simply because she believes in empowering parents to chart their children’s educational future.

Ms. DeVos in her opening statement at the outset of her confirmation hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Jan. 17 said she will be a “strong advocate for great public schools” but will also support parents who don’t believe a school meets their child’s particular needs.

“Parents no longer believe that a one-size-fits-all model of learning meets the needs of every child and they know other options exist – whether magnate, virtual, charter, home, faith-based or any other combination. Yet too many parents are denied access to the full range of options, choices that many of us here in this room have exercised for our own children. Why in 2017 are we still questioning parents’ ability to exercise educational choice for their children?”

These statements and educational philosophies hardly deserve public heckling and shaming the way Ms. DeVos has been taunted, and it’s important that Americans who support Ms. DeVos and her views on education stand up for our new education secretary and speak out against those who bully instead of respectfully raising their questions and concerns.
