Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate today announced the first step toward repealing and replacing Obamacare – a concurrent resolution that authorizes four committees to “fast-track” the repeal process and “achieve at least $1 billion in deficit reduction” from fiscal years 2017 through 2026.

“Today, we take the first steps to repair the nation’ broken healthcare system, removing Washington from the equation and putting control back where it belongs: with patients, their families, and their doctors,” Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) says in a statement.

This on the heels of GOP assurances rolling back President Obama’s signature health-insurance law is a top priority in 2017, as Obamacare premiums continue to skyrocket and numerous exchanges have imploded under the weight of covering so-called “frequent fliers” – the elderly more in need of insurance than a younger, relatively healthy population.

Washington Examiner Managing Editor Philip Klein, author of “Overcoming Obamacare: Three Approaches to Reversing the Government Takeover of Health Care,” recently weighed in on Republican lawmakers’ plans to defund the behemoth piece of legislation.

“[A]fter a number of conversations with senior GOP leadership aides in both chambers of Congress, this is the message I’ve received: Republicans are moving full-speed ahead on Obamacare, and could have a bill repealing much of the law on President Trump’s desk within weeks of him being sworn into office,” writes Klein.
