Jenny Beth Martin tells Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg what’s on her mind
“What’s on your mind?” It’s the question that appears on the status update of every personal Facebook account and is written in large letters atop the famous “Facebook wall” at the company headquarters in Menlo Park, California – and it’s not a question Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin shied away from answering Wednesday when she and other conservative leaders from across the country met with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to discuss recent allegations the social-networking site has been suppressing politically conservative news and propping up a homogeneous workplace culture that favors its more liberal members.
“We’ll see if the dialogue continues and if they work to really make improvements and to see how they can prevent these things from happening in the future,” Jenny Beth told the New York Times. “They sincerely seem to acknowledge that they have areas that they have to improve and they want to learn from those mistakes and be better in the future.”
The success of Facebook and its engagement rate depends on spirited debate and interaction among users; Mr. Zuckerberg inviting Tea Party Patriots and other conservatives to be part of the conversation toward improving Facebook’s treatment of conservatives with diverging opinions is a step in the right direction.
