Tea Party Parade Marching Orders!
-
Determine
if there is a Tea Party Patriot event
scheduled for the 4th of July in
your area.
Check the national
Teapartypatriots.org site to determine
if a Tea Party Patriot has already organized
a group to participate in a parade in your
area. If so, contact them and ask to help
or to participate in the parade. If not,
and if you are interested in organizing one,
go on to step 2 below. Don’t be
nervous…very few of us had ever organized an
event before, and now we have, and we’re
here to help you based on our experiences!
-
Organize
your own tea party parade march.
Get on the web and use Google or any other
search engine. Search for “(insert your
county name here) 4th July
parade.” This should direct you to the
sponsor and sign up information for your
local parade.
-
Get your
permit to participate in the parade.
Follow the sponsoring entity’s directions to
get your permit on behalf of the (Your
County Name Here) Tea Party Patriots. Having
the permit under “Tea Party Patriots” allows
any other Patriot who inquires to know that
a permit is already in place. They can then
contact you to aid in planning, or simply to
participate.
If the
sponsoring entity asks you what kind of
group you are, either on the phone or by
written application, you can let them know
you are a “grassroots, non-partisan
organization dedicated to fiscal
responsibility, lower taxes and limited
government.”
Either
from a phone conversation or from the rules
you find on a website, you will want to
obtain answers to the following questions:
-
What time is the parade, and
what time do you need to be
there to get lined up?
-
What is the cost to participate,
if any?
-
Are there any restrictions on
your activities in the parade?
-
Is there a maximum amount of
people you are allowed to have
participate in the parade with
you?
-
Is there are special parking and
preparation area for parade
participants?
-
Post your event on the
national
Tea Party Patriots website.
This will automatically link your event to
the California site as well. Make sure to
post your contact information so that others
who might like to volunteer can contact
you. You’ll want to use everyone you can to
help with planning, promotion and
participation in the parade.
-
Plan your
Tea Party Patriots parade march.
Here are just a few ideas:
-
March in the parade with your
homemade protest signs. Be
creative, catchy and avoid being
offensive. Remember, we are a
family organization. Please stay
away from social issues. It’s
important that we retain our focus
on what unites us, not what the
politicians have used to divide us.
-
Many
4th of July events around
the country are focusing on the
issue of opposition to the
government takeover of the health
care system. Like almost everything
we suggest this is purely optional.
However, this is one of the most
important fiscal issues of our
time. We simply cannot afford to
have the government involved in our
health care system.
-
We
suggest that you get as many
participants as possible wearing the
official Tea Party Patriots
tee-shirt, designed specifically
for the Fourth of July festivities.
It’s a bright red, and will allow us
to stand out and show what a unified
force we are.
-
Enter the parade with classic cars,
military vehicles, and floats
decorated for the Fourth of July or
with Tea Party Patriots slogans
(i.e. Silent Majority No More).
-
Find
volunteers with Horse and Carriage
or Equestrian teams and decorate
them with Tea Party Patriots signs
and slogans.
-
Be
creative! This is a grassroots
movement, and the real genius comes
from you. Share your ideas with the
rest of us so we can all improve our
plans.
-
Promote your Tea
Party Patriot event. Send out a
press release to local newspapers, radio,
and television one week before the parade
and then again on the Wednesday before the
event. You can download a sample press
release here. (Press release coming
soon). Also, make sure you send an email to
everyone you know. You can use the press
release, or just send a nice friendly email
asking all your friends and colleagues to
join you on the 4th!
-
Think Big.
The goal is to let our neighbors, our
government officials, and our communities
know that the Tea Party Patriots are
everywhere. It’s not hard to make a big
impact in a parade. Think about the parades
you’ve seen. The largest groups you see
marching in a parade are usually the
marching bands. A very large marching band
is 250 people. Imagine the impact if you
have 500 people with you. What if 1,000
show up to join you? Even in many small
communities across the nation we’ve had tea
parties in excess of 500 people. This is a
chance for us to show the tax and spend
politicians that we are everywhere, in every
community across this great nation, and that
we are organized and on the move.
Let’s work
together and make the Tea Party Patriots the
largest group of parade participants in
every local 4th of July parade
across the nation. We can’t do it without
you! So get signed up to help out today.
Don’t just sit on the sidelines…come join us
and help change the country!
