February, 2010

Three exciting things are happening in February of 2010:

    * Rollout of Final Voting for Contract from America, February 18
    * Recharge the Movement Street Demonstrations, February 27
    * Tea Party the Documentary House Viewing Parties, February 27

February 27th marks the 1-year anniversary of the Nationwide Tea Party movement and we cannot let that pass without highlighting where we have been, what we have accomplished and where we are going.

To highlight what we have accomplished and where we are going, we will roll out our final 20 options for the Contract from America at a press conference on February 18.  That will begin the final voting process for the Contract from America.  Be sure to watch for an email telling how to vote for it so you have an impact on the final document.

On February 27th, to show where we have been and that we intend to continue to make our voices heard, we will have a round of Tea Party Patriots Street Demonstrations called Recharge the Movement Demonstrations. These will be very raw and rough like the first round of tea parties were last year.  Most locations will not have lots of predetermined people to speak and instead will use bullhorns and be a bit more unscripted as they were on February 27th of last year.  The messaging will continue to be our core values of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets. If you want to host one of these tea parties, please click here to sign up. We will have someone contact you via phone or email to help you get started. Some locations have decided to host tea parties and/or training sessions.  We encourage you to host an event on 2-27-2010. The type of event you host is up to you.

As a bonus to celebrate our one year anniversary on February 27th, we are encouraging all of our members to host house parties that evening to show The Tea Party Movie: the Documentary.  This movie is an incredible way to get more people involved in the movement. It is arguably our single best advertising resource to date.  Purchase a copy of the movie, invite your friends, family, and neighbors over for a movie night with popcorn and watch the Tea Party Documentary. After the movie, ask them to sign up to become a Tea Party Patriot.  Ask them to help you plan an April 15th Tax Day Tea Party.  You will not be disappointed you did but you might be disappointed if you don't.

CLICK HERE to sign up as an Event Host and learn how to post your event on our website.

March, 2010

As we prepare for Tax Day Tea Parties on April 15th, we encourage each individual Tea Party Patriot member to consider hosting a Tax Day Tea Party.  Last year there were over 850 tea parties across the country on April 15th with over 1.2 million in attendance.

Our local coordinators realize that to continue to grow the movement, we need more local coordinators. Each one of us within the movement has our very own circle of influence. Many of those people within your individual circle of influence would come to a tea party you host but may not attend a tea party that someone else is planning.

Of course, there is always a caveat.  We ask that you honor the tea parties that already exist in your town or major metro area by planning your event at a different time than the major event for the area.  The best way to do this is to plan a pre- or post- tea party to coordinate with the major tea party in your area.  This way you can bring your circle of influence to the single tea party in your area where the media will be.  That will insure the largest audience for the media and it also insures that we are not competing with one another.  In turn, the existing tea party groups are asked to help you plan your event and allow your input into the major metro event.  In areas, where we have implemented this model, the tea party groups have grown tremendously.

In March, we are asking you to reach deep within yourself to determine if starting your own local tea party group makes sense for you. In March, we will have training available to help get you started. We will also have local coordinators who already have experience to help you get started. CLICK HERE to view helpful hints for starting a Tea Party.

We are all in this movement to reclaim America's founding principles and the best way to do that is to grow the movement and teach others what our core values are.

April, 2010 - TAX DAY TEA PARTIES

Last year on April 15th, we had over 850 tea parties with over 1.2 million people in attendance, on a Wednesday, protesting out of control government taxing and spending.  These tea parties were all over the country.  This year, we will have Tax Day Tea Parties again on April 15th.  How many will we have? Will you step up to the challenge and host a Tax Day Tea Party for your own circle of influence?

We will have tea parties both small and large around the country.  There will be several major regional events including in Washington, DC, Atlanta, and Sacramento.  We are also working on regional events in 1 - 3 other locations which are still to be determined.  The regional events will be in the late afternoon (on the west coast) and evening hours (on the east coast) and will be webcast across the country.  Additionally, keynote speakers at each of the locations will be simulcast on jumbotrons to the other regional locations.

This approach will hopefully give people who want to participate in a larger event the ability to do so without having to go to through the full expense of traveling across the country to a single location.  Additionally, it will give those who want to participate from their home the ability to do so via the webcast.

At the Tax Day Tea Parties, we will roll out our final version of the Contract from America. We will ask you to sign the Contract from America and we will also be asking elected officials to sign the Contract from America at the Tax Day Tea Parties.

Last year many organizations signed on as coalition partners for Tax Day Tea Parties.  We are working to do the same this year.  So far, we have Freedom Works and American Liberty Alliance as coalition partners.  We will be announcing more coalition partners in the weeks to come.

If you are willing to host a Tax Day Tea Party and have not been a local coordinator before, please CLICK HERE to fill out this form. If you are a local coordinator and are hosting a tax day tea party, be sure your tea party is listed on our web site so others in your area can find it.

April - June, 2010

Our focus in May and June will be training. We will have training opportunities for you regarding the Constitution and founding principles. Additionally, we will have training to teach you how to become a better activist.

The training will show you how you can become more involved in the tea party movement.  Whether it is writing blog posts about our core values, walking door to door to teach people about our core values, or making phone calls to elected officials, you will learn about ways you can use your talents to get more involved.

While this training is scheduled to start in April, it will be ongoing throughout the year.

In addition to the training, we will watch for educational and grassroots lobbying opportunities regarding hot legislative topics.  These activities will be similar to what we have already been doing with Cap and Trade and Government Takeover of Health Care.

July, 2010

Since we are patriots, we cannot let July 4th go by without celebrating America's Birth and Independence.  Rather than compete with existing and traditional Independence Day celebrations, this year on July and around July 4th, we are encouraging each local coordinator (or representative of a local tea party group) to organize your local tea party group to participate in Independence Day Parades, Fairs, and Festivals in your local communities.

Tea Party Patriots is also exploring an idea for a bi-coastal Independence Day Family Tea Party Event.  This idea is in the preliminary stages and we will have to see how it plays out.

We also encourage you to host a Tea Party Patriots Backyard BBQ and Ice Cream Social in your own home in July.  We will have 1 day around the country where we are asking Tea Party Patriots members to host house parties.  At these house parties, we will teach our own circle of influence about what the tea party movement is, what we stand for, and why it matters.  We have some fun activities planned to go along with these Backyard BBQ and Ice Cream Socials.  Stay tuned for details.

August, 2010 - TOWN HALL HEAT

In 2009 Tea Party Patriots, like you, redefined the traditional Town Hall meetings held by members of Congress during their summer break. Congress will be on recess in August 2010 and back at home in their districts around the country. We will keep you up-to-date on Town Hall dates, times, and locations, as well as the hot legislative issues which will be on the agendas.

In addition to Town Halls, we will be planning for our second 912 March on DC.  If you are able to coordinate a bus or caravan for the trip, please fill out this form so we can help you with the details.

September, 2010 - 912 March on DC

We had many questions and thoughts regarding whether or not to do the 9/12 March on DC again this year.  Do we have the resources?  What are our expectations?  Etc. In the end, the question became, "How can we not do the march again this year?"  You, the grassroots members, want to come back to Washington, DC on a single day to make your voices heard.

We are a grassroots, bottom-up organization and we honor your desire.  So, we are headed back to DC on September 12 for another March on DC.  Again, Freedom Works will be the primary host of the event.  We will be one of their coalition partners.  Our National Coordinator, Jenny Beth Martin, will again be National Co-Coordinator for the 912 March on DC along with Freedom Works' Brendan Steinhauser.  Just like with the Tax Day Tea Parties and last year's 912 March on DC, we will reach out to other like-minded fiscal and constitutional organizations to partner with them as we plan and implement the March on DC.

Like last year, there will be opportunities for training and networking.  Also, Tea Party Patriots will host the Sign Making Party again on September 11.

Watch for details in the coming months regarding other partnering organizations, speakers, training events, and more.

October - November, 2010

As we draw closer to Election Day, we will have voter guides online that will compare candidates for various offices based on our core values:

    * fiscal responsibility
    * constitutionally limited government
    * free markets.

We will provide you the information you need to make the best decision when you are at the ballot box.

December, 2010

One way to grow is to evaluate what you have done and what lessons you have learned from your actions.  In December, we will do just that.  At the end of the year, we will recap what we have done, what we have learned, what we can do better, and how we can make a bigger and better impact in the future.  There will be another survey similar to the Three for Tea Survey that individual members may fill out to offer their input on what we have done, where we should go, etc.

We will use this feedback to plan for 2011 and beyond.

The Process

After reading the responses to the 2009 survey, the First Coast Tea Party in the Jacksonville, Florida area graciously sponsored and hosted the National Coordinator team at a Board Strategy Meeting.  The National Coordinator team reviewed the results and created a plan for what they thought you our grassroots Tea Party Patriots wanted.

But, the National Coordinator Team never makes a final decision without input from the Local Coordinators.  We know that they are in touch with you on a daily basis and we trust their judgment.  After the Board Strategy Meeting, Local Coordinators from around the country came to Washington, DC for a Local Coordinator Leadership Summit.

You may not be aware of the fact that many dedicated Tea Party Patriots Local Coordinators around the country have quit their jobs or stopped their second jobs to promote this movement.  They are having to make decisions about whether to continue with the movement or to go back to work to pay for their bills or cut out all the niceties like going out to dinner or date nights with their spouses they enjoyed before last February.   Most of the local coordinators we talk to no longer watch TV at night but instead are on long conference calls and meetings to keep the momentum moving.  They have dropped their involvement in other activities they used to participate in to give every spare minute to the movement.  They are literally sacrificing their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.  We wanted to make sure we could accommodate as many of those people as possible with your generous donations.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to making possible for them to travel to DC to plan the year.

While in DC, the local coordinators went through the plans and refined them.  It was an incredible meeting! There were members of 912 Groups and members from Freedom Works who also participated in the meeting.  Finally, they had the opportunity to meet others face-to-face who they have talked to over the phone for the past year.  They also discussed the best practices, plans for the 2010, plans for beyond 2010.

Since several more Local Coordinators could not make it Washington, DC (most only had 5 days notice), we took the 2010 plans to the Local Coordinator Leadership Council weekly conference call this Monday for final approval of the plan. With their final approval, we present the plan to you.  We present it knowing that each individual member of Tea Party Patriots has had the opportunity to set the direction for the tea party movement this year and beyond.
**********************************************************************************
You are the heart and soul of the Tea Party Movement. Thank you for promoting the causes of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets with us!

I believe an important message wasn't stressed as much as it could've been during the run-up to obamacare. Plenty of opposition voices spent alot of time making the case that the gap between passing
it (tax increases to begin immediately) and delaying it going into effect in 2014 was just a smoke & mirrors accounting gimmick necessary
to come up w/ CBO numbers that obama could peddle to the public. True enough. But I don't believe that's the only reason for the time lapse. IMO the progressives, knowing full-well ...and by design!...
that the vast majority of employers, left w/ no other option but to drop health care leaving millions of very pissed-off voters out there w/ no coverage, knew from the start that they needed to give themselves enough time to let "dissociation" set in, giving them enough wiggle room to spin their way out of it. As God as my witness, I can already hear them just simply blaming all those "evil corporations" who so callously threw all those hard-working families out into the street and oh, by the way, the American people should be thankful the democrats had the foresight to make sure they had somewhere else to go! Too many times over the years, I've found myself nauseous to the point of being physically ill, watching (like a bad accident happening in slow-motion) them "shuckin' & groovin" their way out of trouble. I feel it's imperitve that ALL of us take EVERY opportunity in the weeks & months to come, to make sure all Americans keep understanding exactly what's going to happen ...AND WHO'S REALLY TO BLAME!!! I'm not saying this point wasn't made. I just feel it could've been given more attention then & it certainly isn't being shouted out as loud and as often as it needs to be from here forward. It's not enough for us to keep discussing it w/ ourselves, we're not the ones who need to be reminded of it every day because none of us will EVER forget. So, we need to make certain the rest of America, outside of our movement, NEVER forgets either.

The Obama regime are at it again, lying to the people in an attempt to make political points before the election. They are on the news and putting ads on TV claiming that GM has paid back their loan in full with interest in just one year instead of five as planned but is a lie. They payed their first loan alright but they didn't do it from profits, they paid it back with a second loan so they in fact still owe the same amount. The truth of this was on Neil Cavutto show today and we are still stuck with the bill. They only paid back the first loan part 8 billion, the 53 billion of our tax dollars Obama used to buy out the company is also still in GMs greedy little hands. Let the media know and the Obama regime know that are smarter than they think we are and that we know the truth.
We need to let everyone know that this is a lie because Obama is going to try to use these ads to convince people his plan is working.

How do we keep Hilary Clinton from destoying our rights to bear arms? She is using the UN to go around our constitution. We have stop the Pelosi's, Clinton's, and Reid's and get them out of power before we lose it all. We have to many illegal's in this country that are taking American jobs we have to many forigen workers that are taking our jobs, and we are allowing to much of our work to go out of this country, and then shipped back in to be sold to us.

From Maukapete Posted 3/19/2010 4:10:41 PM

ABOVE ALL ELSE, we must remember that we are the decent, law abiding Americans. We must never do anything to disgrace ourselves or our cause in any event we take part in. We must never start any violence or take part in any destruction or private or public property. We must never leave trash on any site we rally and we must be courteous to the police officers under whose juristictions we meet and follow their orders. We must never be obscene. If we are accosted by hecklers we should remain silent and ignore them. We must never return violence for violence unless our life is threatened and then we should seek police help first if possible. The socialists already have a long track record for sleazy, violent behavior. We are not like them. We are the true patriots on whom our nation depends to continue the American dream. Our grandchildren are counting on us to leave a better future. God bless America. Pete Peterson.

From debjarvis Posted 2/23/2010 3:09:33 PM

The principles of the tea party movement is, Taxed Enough Already. One of the biggest wasteful spenders are all government funded enterprises. By years end they have to spend all excess revenue or lose it for the next years budget. How about rewarding thrift, as in a bonus paid to government offices that are under budget, that would be paid out at a small percentage of what was saved or not used. The surplus saved in case of circumstances requiring that same office to need more funds the following year. While I was in the armed forces, these practices were employed, and waste became rampant in order to preserve the previous years income invested. That was 30 years ago and they (government employees) are still doing it today. How much would that save us as tax payers?

I believe one of the articles of the Contract From America should be the implementation of the provisions of the War Powers Act, a law that is already on the books. This provides that any time the President sends troops to an active engagement overseas, Congress must approve and authorize it, and must re-authorize it every 6 months.

Tomorrow is the Big Day in CA: the 'Invisible' Tea Party Tomorrow's Tea Party will only be visible to the folks who happen to be at the county Registrar's office in your local county. Yes, tomorrow, Tues. Feb 16, 2010 is the day the tea party rebellion begins in earnest in CA. All across the state of CA, people like you will be appearing before the clerks at the registrar's office filing for a seat on your local Central Committee. You will be placing your feet on the path toward becoming the most powerful official in US politics. Please be sure to visit http://precincts.ning.com and post a blog entry (every member has their own blog there which appears on the site's opening page) about your experience at the county registrar's office. Since there will probably be a line at the registrar's office, blog about your experience chatting with people (other candidates) in line with you! (We'd love for you to blog at nationalprecinctalliance.org however the blogging resources are not up and running there yet, so we invite you to blog at the CA specific site instead: http://precincts.ning.com). Please share what you learn at the clerk's office! We need to hear about your victories, as well as any obstacles you may have encountered. What you learn in your county will go a LONG WAY toward helping folks in other counties, so be sure to post about your experiences. Finally, be sure to have a few dollars in your pocket to purchase 'street indexes' of your area when you file and pick up your petitions. These 'street indexes serve two purposes: first, they lead you directly to the households of party members who can sign your petition. Second. they are a copy of the voter's individual voter registration - be sure that they sign with the same name and street address on the street index or the signature could get tossed and you will have to get more signatures to replace them. Remember, the clerks use 'statistical methods' to check petition signature forms - if they identify only 2 or 3 invalid signatures on a given petition form, the entire petition form gets tossed out. Be accurate! To be safe, be sure to get 40 signatures, not the minimum 20 signatures. Good luck, and here's to taking over the country, one precinct at a time! Anyting can be prohibited. That, of course, doesn't mean that they don't continue to exist.
"To Big to Fail" seems to be the perfect example of a 'Perfect' monopoly. A company or corporation, offering a paricular product or service, is faltering, failing and about to go bankrupt. There is a loud hue and cry, "No, we cannot let it fail, they are needed far too much, effecting too much, jobs, investments, etc. There isn't anyone else doing their work. Bail them out!" Couldn't, shouldn't this type of entity qualify as a monopoly? Have they actually garnered 100% of market share? That in itself would seem to be a definition of monopoly. No competition ready to step in? Take charge and show it can do the same product or service more efficiently, i.e. cheaper? What happened to 'competition' in the field? It would seem that at least one of the items corporations have bounght in Washington is having D.C. simply not enforce anti-monopoly law, allowing them to simply go ahead with their monopoly practices regardless and with impunity. Is this reasoning, reasonable? to those students/scholars posting here on this subject?

The laws of the United States hold that a legal entity (like a corporation or non-profit organization) shall be treated under the law as a person except when otherwise noted. This rule of construction is specified in 1 U.S.C. §1, which states:

In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, unless the context indicates otherwise-- the words "person" and "whoever" include corporations, companies, associations, firms, partnerships, societies, and joint stock companies, as well as individuals;

This federal statute has many consequences. For example, a corporation is allowed to own property and enter contracts. It can also be sued and held liable under both civil and criminal law.

Because I find economics absolutely fascinating (strange?)I'm envious of you in your position, Mimor. Although I read much, I'm lacking in the experience. Concepts of Free Trade, division of labor, proper use of a 'medium of exchange' and the ability (I think) of Free Market Trade to balance itself if left alone and distribute wealth all while using resources most wisely and efficiently, is, to say the least, most interesting. Hope you'll post more on economics when the time arises.

I've actively participated in major markets, domestic and international, for some time and have a pretty good idea about how the market functions. Some points to consider:

Monopolies are now generally prohibited, except for monopolies of labor (labor unions).

Corporations are not inherantly evil. Being large does not make any corporation evil. Only very large corporations can economically perform many key economic functions, like exploring for and producing energy, autos, airplanes, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Corporations and unions that get political favors, like price supports, quotas, tariffs, legal barriers to new competitors, lucrative contracts because they supported a political candidate or party, etc are indeed a problem. Political favors and punishments must be eliminated.

Prices are set by the markets, unless there is government interference. This includes the price of everything from toothpicks, gasoline, crude oil, airline tickets. No company, large or small, has the capability to dictate prices. Supply and demand really do work - unless the government screws the system up. Gasoline prices didn't rise in 2008 because of greedy oil companies. They rose - and then fell, strictly because of the global free market. In the USA, discussion of or setting prices between competitors is strictly prohibited and in fact works. In many foreign countries, this is not as strict.

Corporations are indeed not people but they are subject to a lot of distress by unions. Unions, like the SEIU, gave Obama over $60million to get elected. Until unions are banned from that kind of political activity, corporations and all individuals must be allowed the same right. If you don't want corporations to support political candidates, you better shut off the huge flow of union cash that has so contaminated the electoral process.

Tea Party activists need to work to keep the government out of business, not to try to regulate business. The EPA is one agency that should be severly restricted and brought under Congressional control, not left to the whim of the President.

DaveBfree: Corporations, certainly, should never be treated like individuals, only the economic entities they are.
The whole concept of FREE TRADE has nothing to do with government. Strictly human societal phenomena.

I think (and I'm no expert) that the Concept of Free Market Trade has certain built in PRINCIPLES of smooth operation rather than rules as such. If the 'principles' are followed then Free Market Trade would always tend to balance itself. The RULES (laws) would be instituted to PREVENT the creation of mega-monopolies, price fixing, discouraging or totally eliminating of innovative competition, making large campaign contribution to congresspeople in exchange for favorable regulations giving 'special privilege and advantage to certain corporation over others, bribery to gain special economic advantage. All of these are devastating to the smooth and correct functioning of the 'FREE MARKET'. As soon as our Republic was founded, and as the Industrial Revolution' was getting underway, greedy people began doing their level best to circumvent the Principles of Free Market Trade to get economic advantage for themselves. Much worse today as they gain more and growing overall control of our government and of us.

From DaveBfree1 Posted 2/11/2010 12:24:09 PM

I think we Tea Party Patriots could gain a lot more supporters if we realized the Constitution did not give human rights to big corporations. Also "free" trade is not in the Constitution, what IS in the Constitution are clear controls on unrestricted free trade. The rights of big corporations are in direct conflict with the interests of We the People.

How do you think the Beck 8/28 Rally in DC will affect the 9/12 March? Why do we seem to have a problem with working with other Conservative groups to unify & grow. Most people will not be able to attend both events unless they live nearby. Why not try to join forces. If you don't want to join Beck, then why not have the march to day after his rally?
